This Is What You Didn't See At the 2015 Billboard Music Awards

There was so much star power at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the Billboard Music Awards on May 17 that the electricity was palpable. Seriously—no one's hair would lie down (proof: Ellen Pomeo's flying locks while she was presenting), plus every time you bumped into someone, you'd get shocked. I blame it all on people like Taylor Swift, One Direction, and Kanye West for being in the same place at the same time.
Enough about the static electricity. Keep scrolling for my full account from behind the scenes at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards.

Around 2 p.m., I headed down to the red carpet—which was outside behind the MGM Grand arena—and hung out with the rest of the press while we waited for nearly two hours for the celebs to arrive. The red carpet was massive and broken up into approximately three sections of nearly 50 outlets each. It was quite the spectacle in and of itself.

Looking stunning in mens wear-inspired trousers and a sexy crop top, Zendaya continued to solidify herself yesterday as the "Breakout Star of 2015." You should have heard the fans when the 18-year-old triple threat arrived...they went nuts and it's easy to see why. Look at her—she's fierce:

BACKSTAGE AT THE BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS

The second I walked backstage, my patience was rewarded. There, in front of me, I saw greatness: the newly crowned queen of Las Vegas, Britney Spears, in the flesh.
After picking myself off of the floor from my "It's Britney, bitch" run in, I headed to the Samsung VIP Great Room, where all the celebs were hanging out before the show started.

Complete with drinks, appetizers, desserts, and a taco bar, the Samsung VIP room was like an oasis amongst the madness. At one point, Scott Hoying from the a cappella group Pentatonix caught my eye at the hummus station. "I just keep coming back," he admitted. He wasn't the only one.

INSIDE THE ARENA
Perhaps the highlight of the evening for me (other than the Britney sighting) was seeing Taylor Swift—aka eight-time 2015 BBMAs winner—hanging out with her "squad" of ultra-famous gal pals when the cameras weren't rolling.
Before the show started, the 25-year-old pop star was simultaneously catching up with her BFFs while receiving instructions from a handler about what to do when presenting Van Halen. You can see it all for yourself in the video below if you look very closely.
Taylor went on to receive eight awards and make Billboard Music Award history, becoming the most decorated musician in the show's history with 20 total wins. (Garth Brooks held the previous record with 19 wins.)
